Five Important Factors to Success Essay Employers today look for a variety of skill sets and personal strengths in an individual and hire those whom they feel will contribute most to their company. As an individual applying for employment or an internship with a company, one should be well aware of the necessary requirements and the recommended skill sets that each company looks for in a potential employee. While there are many different factors that can impact an individual’s success in gaining an internship or employment, there are five factors that especially highlight one’s qualifications. The first thing that employers search for in a future employee is the quality and extent of the individual’s academic background. â€Å"The importance of a college education has become quite evident in terms of earning potential within today’s economy† (College View). A knowledge base of all general education classes along with classes that focus on the individual’s major are an extremely desired asset for most high-income jobs. Specialization of one’s education builds and structures the skills and strengths that an individual will need to be successful in their desired industry. Within this one industry, employers have to start what is called a â€Å"weed out† process in order to narrow down their applicant list. One of the most highly used techniques among these businesses is creating an automatic drop list based on academic achievement for the recent college graduates. Each college graduate will have taken the same set of classes for a particular major, therefore, if one student’s grades do not compare to those of the high achievers, they will have less of a chance finding employment or an internship. However, these college graduates with lower grade point averages are still more likely to obtain important job positions than those who lack a degree altogether. According to College View, â€Å"attending college provides opportunities for graduates which are not as widespread to those who have not received a higher education.† Leadership is a key factor in building one’s path to success. Success Magazine says â€Å"leadership is everything, whether you are leading a life, a community, an organization or a business, or you are in school.† Businesses looking to hire employees want to ensure that each applicable individual demonstrates the initiative to take on projects and fully complete them in an organized and timely manner. According to Success Magazine, it is extremely important that new hires â€Å"develop the abilities of leaders in the areas of strategic and critical thinking, enhancing relationships, negotiating, managing risks, people, change, conflicts and financials, making the right decisions, managing work-life balance† in order to become successful in their new position. Businesses also look for leadership like characteristics in their potential new hires such as integrity, honesty, drive, and excellence. These qualities within an individual will help a company progress and become more successful. Hiring new employees is a risk for each company. Because of this liability, businesses want to make decisions in which they feel confident that will benefit their company due to the fact that it is so costly to hire a new employee undergoing extensive training. Having a leadership background can definitively increase an individual’s likelihood of gaining employment or an internship. Recruiters find it significant that their potential new hires show diligent involvement and a proactive attitude throughout their years attending a university. Being involved with organizations on and off a university campus will greatly benefit an individual because of the variety of different learning, volunteer, and career opportunities given by each of the organizations. Small Business Advice found that a proactive employee â€Å"is not going to sit back and wait for opportunities to land in their lap. Instead, they are going to go out and get what it is they want.† Employees want to make sure that the people they are going to hire will work proactively and in the best interest of the company and nobody else. Individuals that show experience with commitments of an organization in which they are involved demonstrate a more effective work ethic. Small Business Advice says â€Å"you will never see a leader sitting back and waiting for someone to tell them what to do and when to do it.† This is exactly what a company looks for in a new hire. Networking is an extremely important part of successfully gaining employment or internships. The most successful people in the world today would not have been able to achieve such great measures if they hadn’t encountered other influential people. People and connections are the greatest resources an individual has. If an individual has connections with respectable and influential people, they are more likely to succeed in their business. Applicants must put their name and qualifications out there in a positive for all to see in order to begin constructing their own effective social network. A way for individuals in college to network is to join organizations and meet with professors and other academic advisors. The more connections one has, the more likely they will receive a job or internship within a company. It is absolutely necessary that an applicant or new hire demonstrate professional behavior at all times. Recruiters are looking to hire individual’s that will represent their company in a good light 100 percent of the time. No matter where one is or what one does in their free time, if they are publicly misrepresenting themselves, and therefore, the company as a whole, the business will no longer allow that individual to continue portraying the company in such a bad manner and will fire them. A professional businessperson is always on the best of their behavior and always keeps the goals and priorities of the company before their own personal goals and priorities. There are numerous factors that influence a recruiter’s decision to hire a new employee. However, the five main factors are a strong academic background, leadership, proactive involvement, networking and professional behavior.

Rhetorical Analysis of the Film, Waiting for Superman Essay -- Film An

Educational systems in America are impaired, and the very educators that are meant to teach are the one’s pulling it down. That is the apparent message that Davis Guggenheim attempts to convey in his documentary â€Å"Waiting for Superman†. He uses many strategies to get his message across. Some of these include cartoons, children, and those reformers that are attempting to pull the system out of the ditch that it has found its way into. He makes his point very well, and uses facts and figures correctly. He does leave out some of the opinions of the opposing views, but it does not take away from his point that the educational system in America is in need of repair. Guggenheim uses those and other devices to inspire action within the masses, and highlight a topic that has been recently shrouded by other problems our nation faces today. He also places blame upon the ‘system’ itself, many reasons add to this conclusion such as refusal to make change, with tenure being the central idea that cripples education. Guggenheim focuses his documentary on the teachers that make-up a large portion of the system. One of his strongest arguments is that the teachers are the problem, and the inability to rid schools of the incompetent teachers is the primary reason American schools are coming in so low in the international rankings. He also shares many facts and statistics that are staggering by their lonesome, but he presents them in such a way to exaggerate them by use of animation, music, and narration. Some of these animations add visuals when a complex idea is being described, such as the idea of the ‘lemon dance† or the ‘rubber room’ in New York. Guggenheim also takes the idea of tenure and uses these techniques to twist tenure into somethi... ... and our sense of guilt with his documentary. Which, while is not the most admirable technique, it causes the audiences to start thinking about what they are doing to help or hurt the educational system, and what our kids are receiving from the educators around them. This film is one that has faults, but is also very credible and a major wake-up call for those currently in power to make a change and help improve the schools of America, securing a better future for all. Minor setback for a major comeback

All of my family members and friends are counting on me that I will make It that far, all the supporters that eave cheered me on since I could remember. Making my family proud has always been a goal of mines and to make them happy Is my goal. Taking a deep breath, I try to relax as I begin with testing. It felt Like some of the longest hours of my life, and over thinking really affected me hard. Being careful on each question I found myself going pretty quickly, and surprisingly ended faster than I thought.I walked out with heavy confidence that I would pass. Weeks went by and I finally received my test scores. I received a 1270 and wasn't too happy about it, but I was glad that I improved by 50 points since the last time aging the test. I didn't think anything of it until during the beginning of summer my mother told me that I would have to take a summer course for also not doing so well on my placement test. At this point I am feeling stressed out and wondering if will still even b e able to attend college.My head was filled with thoughts that I would be taking some tough courses and struggle with Juggling school and volleyball. I just wanted to succeed in everything that I did. The classes were long and dreadful, and with hopes of having a fun filled summer with no worries at all, there I was taking not only a math class but an English class as well. â€Å"What have I gotten myself into† are the words that replayed in my head each day. My confidence was in the dumps. I had at least two classes each week, rushing from volleyball each time.I could hang out with family or friends but not for long, this truly sucked. It was clear that I didn't belong in there because I did very well. Although, in my math class, we took a test in the end that determined if we were to be placed in either a Math 98 or Math 99 course, and again, I did not pass yet another important test. Feeling even more dressed I eventually found the positive In everything. I told myself tha t I could only move on from there and make things better, that If I wanted to succeed as bad as I wanted to then I would put forth the effort Into doing so.After all of the chaos and hardships It was time to move Into my dorm! The excitement of college was In the air, leaving my house to be on my own gave me a sense of Independence and freedom. My roommates are my team mates which I was very excited about because we could bond and become closer. Meeting so many people from all over the world made me even more anxious for what the year has In tore for me. Double days kicked our butts, waking up at 6 AM to get ready and be to practice thirty minutes early to set up and get our gear on was rough at first.Practicing from 7-10, eating lunch at 1 1 :30, going back to the gym for the last session 1-4 followed by dinner at 5. It was tough to adjust to in the beginning but it slowly made me anxious for our upcoming season. I wanted to work my butt off and show everyone that I could handle it all. Volleyball has been my passion ever since I was 8 years old and I have been waiting for this opportunity nearly all of my life. To play at he collegiate level and compete against teams from all over and ultimately show what I am made of.I cannot get enough of this game! Something that has given me a harder drive is the fact that I am the first in my family to attend college straight out of high school as an athlete. This accomplishment has all of my family supporting and depending on me to do the right things and get through these next four years successfully. As I am sitting in my dorm room I receive a call, and when I look down its my Mom. She starts with asking me how I'm doing and begins to get into news that changes everything.I fall into my chair when she explains how this year I might not be participating on the court, and that a situation has caused me to possibly redstart. Tears fall down my eyes and I am immediately shocked and don't know how to react. My SAT score w as too short of points in my math section and the academic counselors are now realizing it. How stupid I thought, how hard is it to check if everything is all right with my academics, to make sure that I am eligible. I think about how much harder I could've studied, the long nights where my parents would ask me to get my work done.The school days where we had SAT prep and the times where I really focused on passing the SAT. I begin to think about my uncle and how he brought me up into the sport. My family, friends and supporters all were anxious to watch me participate this year and for me to have to think that I have to red shirt now began to cause a lot of tension. This situation has showed me that nothing is ever guaranteed, and the SAT has become my biggest downfall as a student. It has affected me and in the long run I am being held accountable for it. I have nobody else but to blame but myself.On a costive note, I am still allowed to practice with the team but not allowed to t ravel. I will be on the sidelines cheering my team members on and have faith that they will do great things this year. My academics are now a first priority but volleyball is still in the picture. This a blessing in disguise because now I have an opportunity to work on myself and be even more prepared for next year. My scholarship is still going and I am still receiving a free education which I am beyond thankful for. Next year I will be at my best and I will be ready to dominate at the collegiate level.

Four Critics’ Perspective of Theodore Roethkes Elegy for Jane More than forty years after her untimely death, Jane Bannick breathes again--or so it seems while reading about her. Janes unfortunate death in an equestrian accident prompted one of her professors, the poet Theodore Roethke, to write a moving poem, Elegy for Jane, recalling his young student and his feelings of grief at her loss. Opinions appeared almost as soon as Roethkes tribute to Jane, and passages about the poem continue to appear in articles and books. Recent writings by Parini, Ross-Bryant, Kalaidjian, and Stiffler disclose current assessments. These earthly things also reveal the speakers sadness at Janes death. Janes lost presence and Roethkes sorrow receive expression through the concrete world. My sparrow, you are not here, Waiting like a fern, making a spiny shadow. The sides of wet stones cannot console me, Nor the moss, wound with the last light (14-17). In the final stanza, Roethke again addresses Jane in the terms of non human endearment as my skittery pigeon (19), but his final expression of loss comes in terms of a unique human relationship: neither father nor lover. Roethke succeeds in capturing an individual person, his feelings for her, and his sense of loss at her death. This poem, one of the best of the few poems in which Roethke tried to capture an individual, according to Ross-Bryant, owes its success to Janes association with nature and the final statement of the poets love (74-75.) According to Kalaidjian, the poem follows patterns used by Walt Whitman and D. H. Lawrence. Answer: Image one The image of Real.lives.matter shows an individual trapped in the world of social media and seeking a breakthrough in having control over actual life events. The hands at the center are symbolic to an individual chained up to social media applications such in the names of Facebook, Instagram, and twitter (Aaron, 2016). Notably, these social media platforms have tendencies of overpowering people in positioning and establishing their place in the society as they lose focus on the most important aspects of life. Social media has a degree of control over the lives of individuals and this has been manifested by the enactment of laws to assist in the subsidizing of the effects associated with media influence. The police have been pointed out as the main influence in social media law enforcement strategies and how they purpose in fighting crime related activities through the social media. Humanity is lost and chained in the digital unreal world thanks to the frequent technological advancements in interaction platforms each and every day of our lives. The Effects Used I have employed the use of photoshop in the pictures in correctly positioning the logos of social media applications on the police men, and I have also used the effect of duplication. I have also correctly positioned the police uniforms and successfully cut the faces of the policemen using quick selection tool to help in reducing their size. In the background of the image is a focal point of the hands and policemen with a white color effect achieved through decreasing opacity. The person chained in the image seeks to venture into the real world, but the influence of the social media platforms provide hindrances in accessing the normal life. Symbolically, the image of the three cops with and a man in chains carrying a phone shows the inhumane treatment of the black people and how their rights are expressly violated. Additionally, the title of the image (Real.lives.matter) is written in a white font and the layer brought in front, with a white bar behind the words. This has been achieved by using the rectangle tool to facilitate writing and the opacity of the black bar has been lowered. Therefore, the slogan REAL.LIVES.MATTER shows how individuals want to break out or not be used by social media and have control over their ideal world. Ethical Issues in My Image Working I consider my work with high regards and as such ethical issues associated with it come up in the form of creativity, ownership, representation, service and nature of profits. Notably, these are usually confused with the new technologies application which is heightened by preferences in cultures, the personality of an individual, ambitions, and political affiliations (Wiles, Coffey, Robinson and Heath, 2012). Image two This second image shows a young girl trapped in a cage, in an unreal world, making her lose connection to her social life at large, to her friends. The dark cage is symbolic to the dark world she is trapped in due to her commitment to the use of social media interaction platforms in the form of twitter (Aaron, 2016). The conceptual idea in the image displayed above is how the use of twitter has distracted individuals from the ideal world and making them embrace the digital space. This is supported by the fact that the lady is trapped in a cage that she cannot escape from as she is a slave to technology and the friends symbolically laugh at her separation from the social life. The Effects Used I have used contrast in making the inside of the cage dark to help in enhancing symbolism and the girls photo has been brought to the middle as a second layer. The image has been layered behind and cropped into a smaller position to make it fit into the cage. The eraser tool has been used to blur the background image that is unwanted and the square selection tool utilized in getting rid of the cage bars. The bars have been removed to make the girl seemingly look inside the cage, and additionally the edges have been softened and added depth by using emboss and bevel. The background has been resized to fit the images by bringing the layer to the extreme back, and the girl and cage to the bottom right hand corner of the image. The inside of the cage has been colored with paint brush tool and the magic eraser tool used in getting rid of the white background. Additionally, the smoothness of the image has been adjusted to feather type and the selection tool has been used in pasting people in the background. There is resizing of the people to a smaller fit to make them look like they are on the grass, with a layer of white background on top of the park. The opacity has been decreased to make the background light and the resized twitter icon placed on top of the cage, and proportionally layered at the front. There are more twitter icons around the girl in the cage who seems to be tweeting to the whole world, but in the real sense taking to herself. Images and Copyright Laws Generally, when an image is developed, the designer owns the copyrights to that image unless it is made for hire. A work made for hire is as a result of a designer hired to take photographs for a person or is told to provide an image for compilations and signing of a written agreement. The images I made will be used online and registration with the copyright office of United States of America is compulsory, and when not done in time, I still retain the copyright rights of the image.
